Held at the iconic The Manila Hotel,
the glitz and sophisticated night of the 38th Star Awards for Movies signals glamour and exciting days ahead for the Philippine entertainment industry.
The country's Filipiniana also proves to be fashionable, fun, and creative. Award hosts Claudine Barretto, Sunshine Cruz, Christian Bautista, and
QC Councilor Alfred Vargas came in their snappy best. In her black sophisticated Marc Bumgarner terno, Cruz won The Face of the Night while, Barretto, in her shimmering white princess modern terno was named Female Star of the Night. Christian Bautista in his modern barong ensemble was chosen Male Star of the Night while Coun. Vargas was hailed Darling of the Press.
With the participants garbed in modern Filipiniana, the much-awaited 38th edition is one Philippine Movie Press Club, Inc (PMPC) event worth remembering. Thanks to MJ Gutierez of Gutierez Celebrities and Media Productions for mounting such a memorable experience at the country's oldest and most revered hotel, The Manila Hotel. The meticulous direction of Director Frank Lloyd Mamaril, together with the FLM Creatives and Productions staff, more than made up the smooth-sailing awarding ceremony for the PMPC.
The 38th Star Awards for Movies is headed by PMPC President Fernan de Guzman as overall chair together with the 2022 officers and board of directors. Current Vice President Mell Navarro is the chairman of the 38th Star Awards for Movies together with PMPC Asst. Treasurer Lourdes Fabian is the co-chairman.
“On The Job 2: The Missing 8” and "Katips" were run away winners bagging major awards in the different categories. OTJ2 clinched the Movie of the Year, Movie Director of the Year for Erik Matti, Movie Supporting Actress for Lotlot de Leon, Movie Ensemble Acting of the Year, Movie Screenwriter of the Year (Michiko Yamamoto), and Movie Sound Engineer of the Year (Corinne De San Jose).
Katips was named
Indie Movie of the Year, Indie Movie Director of the Year and Movie Actor of the Year for Vince Tañada, and
Movie Supporting Actor of the Year for Johnrey Rivas ang nagwaging Year. It also won Indie Movie Ensemble Acting of the Year and Indie Movie Musical Scorer of the Year for Pipo Cifra.
Showbiz veterans and industry icons Ms. Helen Gamboa and Director Chito Roño honored the event with their presence to personally receive the Lifetime Achievement Awards accorded to them. Gamboa, with the current MTRCB Chairperson Lala Sotto in tow, received the Nora Aunor Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Award.
Roño, accompanied by Streetboys members namely, Jhong Hilario, Vhong Navarro, Meynard Marcellano, Joey Andres, Christopher Cruz, Danilo Barrios, & Nicko Manalo,
got for himself the Ulirang Alagad ng Pelikula sa Likod ng Kamera Lifetime Achievement Award. Roño founded the dance group in 1993 and he was totally surprised by the presence of its members as he accepted his first lifetime achievement award ever.
Despite the global pandemic hitting worldwide and badly affecting all industries, the PMPC made sure to honor the country's best of the best movies, performers, and stakeholders for the year 2021.

Pioneer Adhesives Foundation Inc. (PAFI) has recently taken a significant step towards uplifting the lives of communities through the pilot launch of the Angat Sining Tibay at Galing (ASTIG) program in communities affected by the oil spill incident in Oriental Mindoro. This CSR initiative of Pioneer Adhesives aims to deliver practical and sustainable alternate livelihoods to affected local fishermen who have been banned from fishing since the oil spill in February. ASTIG graduates from the Municipality of Pola with Hon. Mayor Jennifer M. Cruz and PAFI Executive Director Janie Alfonso Held from August 28 to September 3, 2023, local fisher folks in the municipalities of Pola and Pinamalayan in Oriental Mindoro -- two of several communities gravely affected by the oil spill -- underwent various trainings on the essential construction skills covering masonry, tiling, roofing, and waterproofing.
