A celebration of collaboration and creativity best described the 16th PMPC Star Awards for Music with an MTV-style awards night on October 27 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza. The event brought together the brightest stars of Original Pilipino Music (OPM), celebrating their significant contributions to the industry. Kudos to Director Eric Quizon and Airtime Marketing for an electrifying event that marked a significant, first-of-its-kind milestone in the music scene.
Truly a night to remember, Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, set the stage ablaze with a medley of his iconic hits coupled with electrifying dance routines which the one and only Gary V can pull off. He was honored with the prestigious Pilita Corrales Lifetime Achievement Award. He expressed his deep gratitude, noting the award's significance, as it honors Asia's Queen of Songs, who also played a pivotal role in his early career.
A prelude to receiving the lifetime achievement award, singer-songwriter Ice Seguerra paid a tribute with a heartfelt rendition of Valenciano's classic 'Sana Maulit Muli'. The two shared an emotional embrace after.
Valenciano also accepted another award, this time with ace rapper Gloc9, for winning the Collaboration of the Year award for their song 'Walang Pumapalakpak'.
Veteran music producer and arranger Homer Flores was also celebrated with his hit songs as he played the piano on the center stage. He received the Levi Celerio Lifetime Achievement Award which he said to be his first in his long years in the industry.
OPM President Ogie Alcasid accepted the Female Concert Performer of the Year award on behalf of his wife, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, for 'Regine Rocks'. He later received the Male Recording Artist of the Year award, commending the PMPC for its continued support of exceptional OPM artists, as he also encouraged fellow artists to give importance to musical celebrations like this.
Equally notable awardees who also rendered special numbers for an unforgettable night of celebration were Christian Bautista (Male Concert Performer of the Year), Jed Madela (Male Concert Performer of the Year), Kris Lawrence (Male R&B Artist of the Year and Male Shining Personality of the Night), BILIB (New Male Group Artist of the Year), and Maymay Entrata (Novelty Song of the Year for 'Autodeadma').
Gloc-9 (Rap Album of the Year), Maki (Male Pop Artist of the Year), Flow G (Rap Artist of the Year), and InnerVoices (Inspirational Song of the Year for 'Isasayaw Kita') also graced the stage to accept their awards.
The country's leading P-Pop group, SB19, which garnered multiple accolades, including Song of the Year and Dance Recording of the Year for "Gento," Album of the Year and Duo/Group Concert Performers of the Year for the 'Pagtatag World Tour-Manila', sent in their video greetings. Likewise, Dionella (New Male Recording Artist of the Year) did the same. They missed the event due to prior commitments.
Adding glitter to the night were beautiful hosts Atasha Muhlach, Jameson Blake, Andre Paras, and Heaven Peralejo, who were also recognized with special awards: Atasha (New Female Recording Artist of the Year and Female Shining Personality of the Night), Jameson (Male Face of the Night), and Heaven (Female Star of the Night).
The PMPC, led by President Rodel Ocampo Fernando, came in full force in their most colorful, comfy GenZ outfits befitting the night 's concert-themed presentation.
The Star Awards is in partnership with Tess Celestino-Howard's Airtime Marketing. For those who missed the live event, watch for the telecast on November 9, Saturday, at 10:15 PM on A2Z.
